Example: Black Templars vs Orks — Linchpin / Tipping Point
Every briefing is tailored to your exact mission and deployment. Here, advice is specific to Linchpin and Tipping Point — not generic faction tips.
Summary
On Linchpin, controlling the designated Linchpin objective is key to primary scoring. On Tipping Point, the offset deployment zones mean one flank is closer to the centre — use it. Your job: hold the Linchpin (or deny theirs), focus-fire the Squiggoth and Nobz before they reach your lines, and exploit the Tipping Point layout with durable units.
Key Threats
Squiggoth / Beastboss on Squigosaur
criticalCan clear your Linchpin holders and flip the objective. On Tipping Point they may push one flank hard — must be focused or kited.
Nobz with power klaws
highDevastating in melee; if they reach the Linchpin or your Crusaders they will trade up. Trukks can deliver them into your weak flank on Tipping Point.
Warboss in Mega Armour
highBuff aura and melee threat; often accompanies the push onto the Linchpin. Killing him reduces Ork efficiency on the objective.
Your Key Assets
Sword Brethren
criticalIdeal to push onto or hold the Linchpin objective and counter-charge. On Tipping Point, use them on the flank that contests the key objective.
Crusader squads (with Marshal)
highDurable Linchpin holders. On Tipping Point, put them on objectives in your deployment and one unit ready to move toward the Linchpin. Use Uphold for survivability.
Redemptor Dreadnought / Gladiator
highAnti-tank for the Squiggoth; position with sightlines to where the Linchpin is. Tipping Point’s offset may give you a firing lane — use it.
Battle Plan
Your Game Plan
Push Crusaders or Sword Brethren toward the Linchpin objective early; they are durable enough to hold under pressure. On Tipping Point, deploy your stronger flank toward the objective that matters most and use the offset to limit how many Ork units can reach you turn 1. Focus anti-tank on the Squiggoth; score Linchpin primary and secondaries.
Their Likely Game Plan
Orks will push toward the Linchpin with Boyz and the Squiggoth to flip it. They will use Tipping Point’s offset to mass on the flank that gets them onto objectives fastest. Expect Waagh! on turn 2 or 3 to surge onto the Linchpin and your backfield.
Deployment
Tipping Point uses offset deployment zones: your deployment is not symmetrical. Identify which objective is the Linchpin and which flank gets you there (or denies the Orks). Deploy your toughest units (Crusaders, Marshal) where they can hold your home objective and contest or take the Linchpin. Keep anti-tank with sightlines to the Squiggoth’s likely approach. Do not over-extend into the offset no-man’s-land or Orks can charge you turn 1.
Tips:
- Linchpin: Put at least one durable unit (Crusaders or Sword Brethren) in position to move onto or hold the Linchpin objective by turn 2.
- Tipping Point: Stack your stronger flank toward the Linchpin side; use the offset so the Orks cannot threaten all your objectives at once.
- Keep Redemptor or Gladiator where they can shoot the Squiggoth when it pushes for the Linchpin; reserve or hide Sword Brethren for a counter-charge.
Turn One Checklist
- Linchpin: Score primary if you already hold the Linchpin; otherwise position to take or contest it next turn.
- Tipping Point: Use the offset — avoid spreading thin; concentrate on the flank that secures the Linchpin.
- Position so the Squiggoth cannot charge your Linchpin holders; shoot it if in range.
- Do not over-extend; Orks want you to come to them so they can Waagh! into you. Set up secondaries (e.g. deploy teleport homers) if your list supports it.
